China HVAC system market demand analysis
Urbanization becomes a largest diver of future development of China economy and is one of important factors impacting the demand of central air conditioning system in China. According to the data from National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), in the past 10 years, urbanization rate of China increased from 43.00% in 2005 to 56.10% in 2015, but still a huge gap comparing with developed countries. Chinese Academy of Social Sciences predicted that urbanization rate of China will reach 61% and 65% in 2020 and 2025, respectively. Driven by urbanization, commercial deployment and public infrastructure will bring great new demand for central air conditioning industry.
1. Commercial deployment
Urbanization pushed the need of commercial deployment, driving the establishment of office buildings, hotels and shopping malls, etc. In recent years, commercial estate investment in China increased yearly, accumulating to 2.08 trillion yuan by 2015.
2. Public infrastructure
Urbanization construction also drove the development of public infrastructure, including intercity railway, subway, light railway and airport, as well as library, hospital, cinema, gym and theatre, which inevitable leading to increased demand for central air conditioning.
3. Industrial application
Central air conditioning systems have been widely used in industrial process as environment control equipments. With promoting the industry upgrading policies, the highly requirements on temperature, humidity and contamination control during industrial process led to the more extensive application of central air conditioning, including pharmacy, nuclear power and textile sectors.
4. Coal-to-gas reformation
Fossil fuel for heating is one of the main causes of fog and haze. Many provinces in North China accelerated the clean heating retrofitting since 2016. Related subsidy policies released by Beijing, Hebei and Shanxi promoted and implemented “coal-to-electricity” activities. For example, Beijing will realize non-coal fired heating within urban area in 2017. Low temperature air-source heat pump is an optimal choice to realize “coal-to-electricity” in rural areas, with benefits of low cost and high efficiency.

With China’s central air conditioning equipment is aging, replacement and retrofitting will be a potential market. Comparing with old products, lots of new technologies improved energy grades and products quality. Central air conditioning became an important component of building energy saving with increased awareness of energy efficiency and emission reduction and implementation of green building strategies.
